Warm, welcoming people, gardens, geysers, fjords, jetboats, and spectacular scenery!
In December 2023 we embarked on a 15-day Overseas Adventure Travel (O.A.T.) tour of the North and South Islands of New Zealand. With a knowledgeable and humorous guide and 14 friendly fellow travelers, we thoroughly enjoyed all of the many scenic and cultural experiences along the way.
After touring the capital city of Auckland and the surrounding area we had a day-trip by ferry to nearby Waiheke Island. We then traveled to Rotorua, with a stop half-way to see the beautiful Hamilton Gardens. After three days in and around the geothermally active Rotorua we flew to Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island. In Auckland and Rotorua we had several extensive interactions with the indigenous Māori people, learning their history and experiencing their rich, welcoming culture.
From Christchurch we traveled by bus to Dunedin, stopping along the way at Oamaru and Moeraki, each with its own unique attractions. Next was a long, scenic bus ride to the spectacular Milford Sound where we spent a night onboard a small ship. Finally, we bused to Queenstown for our last three days, which included an exciting jet-boat ride on the Dart River.
From Queenstown Connie and Graeme flew to Melbourne to spend Christmas with family, while the rest of the tour group returned home.
