Our first big trip of 2022 was a magical Scandinavian voyage with scenery that has to be seen to be believed. The trip is billed (by Overseas Adventure Travel) as “Fjord Cruise & Lapland: Norway, Finland & the Arctic.” The fjord cruise and Lapland were certainly among the highlights, but the entire tour was outstanding and incredibly scenic. We had the added pleasure of traveling with our good friends Jeff and Barb. The video at the bottom of this page gives a good overview of the trip.

Summary
After an optional pre-trip extension of three days in and around Copenhagen, Denmark, we traveled by overnight ferry to Norway for three days in Oslo. From there we journeyed by bus to Flåm then on the unbelievably scenic Flåm Railway to Bergen. Before boarding ship for our coastal fjord cruise we spent two days touring Bergen and a nearby salmon farm.
The scenery of the fjord cruise on a Hurtigruten coastal transport ship was even more spectacular. With stops to explore five towns and the North Cape along the way, we disembarked six days later in Kirkenes on the north coast, well above the arctic circle. From Kirkenes we bused to Ivalo in Lapland (Finland) to learn about the indigenous Sami culture. A short plane ride then took us to Helsinki for the last couple of days of our trip.

As usual, our trip leader Peter was a wonderful guide, and the friendliness of our fellow travelers and all the locals that we met, combined with all the scenery and activities made our Scandinavian adventure an unforgettable journey.
