Tanzania Serengeti Safari Overview & Video

Leopard in a tree

In July 2018 we traveled with Overseas Adventure Travel (O.A.T.) on the Safari Serengeti: Tanzania Lodge & Tented Safari trip.  We saw many hundreds of animals on the seven game-viewing rides. We also thoroughly enjoyed all the time we spent interacting with and learning about the people, problems, and culture of Tanzania. Everywhere we went we found the people to be friendly, welcoming, and happy, no matter what their circumstances.

We saw and photographed:  baby baboons, beastly buffalo, beautiful birds, chilling cheetahs, colorful cranes, a crafty crocodile, diminutive dik-diks, exhilarating eagles, elegant eland, enormous elephants, flamboyant flamingos, gentle giraffes, gorgeous geese, graceful gazelles, happy hyenas, hundreds of heavy hippos, homely hyrax, impressive impala, jaunty jackals, kingly kingfishers, leaping leopards, lots of lazy lions, a luminous lizard, motionless mongooses, mischievous monkeys, ostentatious ostriches, a splendid serval, striking storks, superb starlings, taciturn topi, wandering warthogs, watchful waterbucks, widespread wildebeest (a/k/a grazing gnus), and zillions of zooty zebras!

Overall the trip far exceeded our high expectations. We felt very blessed to be able to experience and learn so much with a wonderful group of fellow travelers and outstanding guides.  We loved all the spectacular and exciting animal sightings but our lasting impression was of the warm, welcoming people who have so little and yet are so happy and content.

The video below provides a good overview of the trip – best enjoyed on a big screen with sound on. All the photos and travel notes are on the following pages.
